We are so excited that you are interested in enrolling your child at Shine!

Programs:

We offer several different programs including: Morning Preschool, Afternoon Preschool, Preschool Enrichment, and an After School program for children who attend Morehead City Primary School.  If you haven't already, please explore all of our available programs to determine what options would work best for your family. Please note that we provide preschool and after school programs and are not a full time childcare facility. As such, none of our programs include a dedicated rest time for children. Please be mindful of this when selecting your desired programs to ensure that the class schedule aligns well with your child's routine. All of our programs follow the Carteret County Public School's calendar and observe school holidays and breaks. 

We also offer several 1 week long summer camps each summer for children 1-9 years

Tours:

We would love to have you come by to see our school and answer any questions you may have! We typically offer tours between 12:30-3:00 but can accommodate earlier or later times as needed. Your child is more than welcome to attend the tour with you, but it's not required.

Registration Period:

We open preschool registration for the upcoming school year in February. Registration for currently enrolled & returning families takes place during the first 2 weeks of the month, and registration for new families takes place during the last 2 weeks of the month. Registration for our After School program opens in May, If your child is on our waitlist for the current school year, we ask that you complete a new registration form for the upcoming year if you are still interested in having your child attend one of our programs. If you miss the registration window, you may still submit a registration form at any time.

Availability for Current & Returning Families:

Our currently enrolled families have priority when registering for the next school year. If you register during the registration period, we can guarantee your child a spot for the upcoming school year for the number of days per week they currently attend. If you would like to increase or decrease the number of days they attend, we will do our best to accommodate those requests as well. If you have a child who has previously attended our school and would like to register a younger sibling, you may do so when registration opens for current families.

Availability for New Families:

Once the registration period for new families closes, we will begin filling our available spaces for the upcoming year. Our spaces fill quickly so we recommend selecting all program options that would work for your family when completing your child's registration form in order to increase your chances of being offered a spot. If we are able to offer your child a spot, you will receive an invoice for the $175 registration fee. If you have selected multiple program options on your registration form, we will contact you to confirm which option we are able to offer you before we send the registration fee invoice.

Waitlist:

If we an unable to offer your child a spot at the time of registration, we will add them to our waitlist. If a spot becomes available before the school year begins or at any point during the school year, we will contact you to let you know. If we are unable to offer your child a spot during the school year and you are still interested in having them attend the following school year, we ask that you please complete a new registration form for them when the registration period for the upcoming year opens. We do not keep a running waitlist from year to year for any program except our Twinkle (12-24m) class, however we do take into consideration those who have been on our waitlist when we begin filling available spaces for the upcoming year. Since we follow the public school calendar, children in our programs remain in their assigned classroom for the entire school year. We do not move children up to different rooms throughout the year. Because of this, the only way a space becomes available once the school year begins is if a child leaves our program. In the event that occurs, we will fill the open spot from our waitlist. â€‹

 

 

Registration Fee: 

Registration fees must be paid in order to secure your child's spot.  You will not be charged a registration fee until you are offered and accept a spot in one or more of our programs. Registration fees are nonrefundable and may not be transferred to another student or applied to invoices for tuition, summer camp, or any other charge. If after paying the registration fee, your child does not attend the program in which they were registered to attend, the registration fee will be forfeited and no refund or credit will be given.

Twinkle (12m-24m) Registration:

If you're looking to get a jumpstart on preschool, your child may begin their preschool career in our Twinkle classroom when they are between 12m-24m depending on their birthdate. Children must be 12 months old by August 31st to start preschool when our school year begins in the fall. If they miss this cut off, they will be added to the waitlist for the following school year.  If you are interested in having your child attend this program, you may contact us to add them to our waitlist at any time. We only offer 8 spaces for this program and they fill very quickly! We recommend getting on our waitlist as soon as possible once your child is born, or even when you find out you are expecting. When registrations opens for the year in which they will begin. you can complete the registration form and will be given priority when we begin filling the available spaces for that year.

Classroom Placement: 

When you register, you will be able to select which program you would like your child to attend, but the specific classroom they are placed in will be determined based on a variety of factors. Our classrooms have an age range of up to 12 months between the youngest and oldest child. Classroom placement & groupings may vary from year to year; however, all of our classrooms provide an individualized approach to meet each child at their level and promote growth across all developmental domains. This ensures that each child is consistently challenged & supported in mastering goals appropriate for their age and skill level regardless of where they fall within the age range of their class. Since young children all grow and develop at their own pace, it is expected to have a wide range of skill levels and abilities in each class regardless of the age range within the room. No one factor is used when determining a child’s classroom placement, but great care is taken to ensure that every child is placed in a classroom environment where they will thrive.

Teacher: Child Ratios

​

When it comes to providing the best possible learning environment for each child, we know that small class sizes and low teacher: child ratios are imperative. Below are the minimum staff: child ratios and maximum class sizes required by North Carolina, along with the ratios and class sizes we have set for our programs. We often are able to operate at even lower ratios allowing our teachers to spend even more 1:1 time with each child. Occasionally we may choose to increase our max group size by 1 child in a specific classroom as long as doing so does not prevent our teachers from maintaining our program standards.

​Tuition Rates:

​

Our tuition rates are calculated by using a daily rate based on program & classroom placement multiplied by the number of scheduled school days your child is registered to attend. We then divide this number into 10 equal monthly payments that are billed on the 15th of each month from August 15th-May 15th.  Our monthly pricing reflects the classroom ratio for each age group allowing monthly tuition costs to decrease as ratios increase. Monthly tuition rates remain the same regardless of the number of school days scheduled or attended each month.
